In studying for the I bought this book and the the Microsoft Training kit, I started with the training kit, then read this one hoping for a good condensed version focusing on core concepts of the test.
Instead it seems to be a rather sparse overview of Windows 7 features. I’m not exactly sure how all the chapters are mapped to test objectives. It doesn’t offer adequate advice about: certificates, trusted sites, protected mode, compatibility mode, managing add ons, active x controls and essential group policies for managing IE in your enterprise.
There are two useful sections of the book however. Firstly, the appendix has some good tables and information about troubleshooting and configuration tools. Secondly, the assessment test seems pretty decent. But what is laughable is the book claims to have “Two Assessment Exams! I guess 32 is an important one!
On the plus side, thanks to the lack of content reading through the book will only take you a few hours and you can enjoy all the typos as you go through. One person found this helpful. Just like the book, this book is just poorly put together. It consists of mostly screen shots of various Windows 7 dialogs and there is even an outdated screen shot of the HDI website stating you need to obtain an HDI cert before you can earn the MCITP in Windows 7 Enterprise Desktop support, however this is no longer true and was maybe true for a few months at most.
